DSC06689 i had leftover pumpkin from my cookies so i decided to make a new biscuit for doris. i was going for something more flat & crispy. my dog seems to really like crunchy things. this is what i came up with

pumpkin liver heart crisps

6 oz. liver sausage
8 T. lard &/or veg shortening
1/4 c. canned pumpkin
2 eggs beaten
1/4 cup powdered milk dissolved in 3/4 c. warm water (or a cup of milk)
1/4 c. powdered flax seed
1/4 c. wheat bran
3 cups wheat flour

let the liver sit out with the oil so it is soft. cream well & add the pumpkin & eggs. mix well. add the flax & bran & mix well, alternate the flour with the milk.

roll on floured board about 1/2 inch thick. cut with desired shape & bake 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

any of these can be changed-substituting other grains, etc. using yogurt instead of eggs. i know there are lots of doggies that are sensitive or allergic to some of these ingredients. i even think you can make them vegetarian by cooking veggies soft & mashing-substituting for the liver/lard. dogs really appreciate these. so fresh, so tasty. and a good gift for the holidays for your friend’s pooch!
